A New Chapter for Athena and Jordan at Latchi Watersports

…five years ago I visited Cyprus, it wasn’t the first time and I knew it wouldn’t be the last, in fact, I made the decision that once I finished school, Cyprus would become my new home.

Due to the pandemic, my plans were pushed back a couple of years but the dream of returning never left my heart.

At the beginning of this year, my partner made the decision to leave sunny South Africa, where we were both born and raised, to move to Ireland. he needed change, he wanted it. I however couldn’t seem to push myself to do the same at the time.

A couple of months and conversations later, we packed our bags from either side of the world and before we knew it, we were in Cyprus and were the new faces at Latchi Watersports Centre.

I knew nothing about boats, I thought horsepower definitely could only have something to do with the actual power of a horse but within a couple of days, everything started to make sense

My partner Jordan had experience with boats, in fact, he had more qualifications and certificates that I knew existed. I had nothing, well I had something, I had Jordan. now here we both were no longer apart and in the place I always dreamed of living.

A large part of why I wanted to move to Latchi was to be with my family who had already been living there so finding a job just a short walk away from where we were staying made it almost perfect.

My or should I say our new chapter in Latchi was starting and it was all happening so quickly.

Our first day at Latchi Watersports Centre was an experience, to say the least. I knew nothing about boats, I thought horsepower definitely could only have something to do with the actual power of a horse but within a couple of days, everything started to make sense and in case you didn’t know, horsepower has nothing to do with a horse.

Becoming a part of Latchi Watersports was the best decision we could of made

We left everything and everyone we knew but became a part of something bigger than what we had realized.

We were now a part of the ever expanding family that has been growing for the past 45 years and I’m not just talking about the crew. our family includes the customers that have returned for their 15th year in a row, the kid that’s about to get on board his first ever boat, and even the cats that return every morning for treats and plenty of cuddles from each passerby.

Jordan and I have always said, “we’re chasers of the sun” and now it’s almost like we’re living on it.

Five years ago I made the decision to move to Cyprus, I think the younger me would be pretty proud of where I ended up.
