Continuing our Beach Clean Week with GreenDot Cyprus Public Co Ltd.
Johnny H, Johnny A, and Nicola went out to St George’s Island to remove a large fishing net yesterday. After a tough 4 hours and some deep dives down to 45 Metres, they hauled the net back on to the boat; making quite a mess.
Today was the final day of the Polis Municipality Beach Clean up which started on Monday 23rd April.
After our successful day on Wednesday 25th, we were delighted with the number of volunteers this morning. Fifteen members of the public joined ten of our own team. Including our two youngest Latchi Watersports Team Members; Rianna & Charlie Neville, and their school friend Emily.
We all met at 10 am at Latchi Watersports Centre. After a quick briefing and the handing out of bags, gloves and water we split into two teams. One Team was led by Jemma and the other Team was led by Cara. Jemma’s team started from the Centre along the Harbour and Cara’s took the roadside. After a good 30 minutes and a number of bags of rubbish later, we all met up at our beachside base at Psaropoulos. This gave us a chance to catch our breath, change gloves and get new bags.
We then continued along both the road and beach to La Plage. Here we counted our bags. Thirty in total and we loaded them onto Our truck. Along with a number of Tyres, Wood, Rope and Plastic Oil Drums.
We would like to thank our amazing Volunteers. And, the Teams from both Today and Wednesday for their help and support. We would also like to Thank Polis Municipality and GreenDot Cyprus (see them on facebook) for supplying us with bags and gloves.
We will be continuing throughout the Year to keep Latchi and The Akamas Clean from Trash. Starting with our ‘Bring a Bag’ of Trash Incentive starting on the 1st May until 31st May.
